Afternoon folks, here is a new one from Marty and myself:

The Band:

RealTracks in song: 2729:Organ, Rhythm BluesShuffleMike Sw 130

Marty Straub (BabuMusic) is playing the bass.

I'm playing the guitar parts and used EZDrummer3 to build the drum track.

Mixed in Reaper with plugins from Waves and iZotope, mastered with Ozone.

I generated the images for the video using Copilot AI, and got the video clips from pexels.com and pixabay.com.

Time to Play Some Blues (2024, Dave Bell)

Late night whisky, looking through a smoky haze
you play at night, and you sleep through most of the days
As dawn slowly creeps in, you find that the notes still ring
Stevie Ray said you can't go wrong with some Albert king

Like a whistle blowing on a lonesome train
the blues will take away your pain

you gotta bend those notes, you gotta make it cry
Play with feeling, just like Buddy Guy
Let the rhythm take control, feel the music in your soul
It's got a slightly different feel than good old rock and roll

Like a whistle blowing on a lonesome train
the blues will take away your pain
Bluesy music, rockin through the night
Gonna make you feel alright

We gotta stop messin 'round, time to play some blues
we're gonna have some fun, with some funky grooves
theres lots of great music that you can choose
but to keep it real, you gotta play the blues

Chris should be joining us for the next one, she is now in her new place and has her studio setup. cool

All comments welcome!

Nice groove! Guitar is ripping, bass owns the pocket, and the vocals sound smokey and cool. Like the placement of the vocals in the mix and whatever FX you have on them. All sounds very glued together and hip. Kind of like the Doors if they had a bass player as good as Marty. Ha!

Amen brother! Dave you are the blues/rock king of the forum! Every time I hit play on a track by you and Marty, I know it's going to be something great! You never disappoint!
I not only love your guitar work Dave, but the vocal on this really fits the style well and you did a great job! Marty as always, is killing it with solid bass playing and really sets the table for everything else!

Super!! TB

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Ron,
Big Doors fan here. As you probably know, when playing live Ray Manzarek played the bass parts on his keyboard. I always thought they would have been a better live band if they had a real bass player, and yeah, Marty would have rocked it for sure!
Thanks for the listen and comments!

Dave,

This one really smokes... Love the rocking arrangement and terrific vocal. Your guitar is also superb. Marty's bass sounds huge and really glues things together. And the video is perfect.

Love this!

A bit faster than your usual blues.
Kinda blues-rock.
Nice!
Right up my alley.
Highlight is your guitar solo, great playing and tone and you can hear why you and Marty are such a cool band.

You two played some of the best blues and it should be on the radio today.
Great guitar tone and as usual chops.
That bass was right in the pocket.
Great vocal.
This line is so true "you gotta bend those notes, you gotta make it cry
Play with feeling, just like Buddy Guy".

You’ve got two hallelujahs from the amen corner down here, Dave! 😊

“Like a whistle blowing on a lonesome train
the blues will take away your pain”

Oh yeah! We love everything about this and are you ever correct on your mentions of Stevie Ray, Albert King and Buddy Guy.
You and Marty do them way more than justice in this excellent song with your guitar, swampy vocal and Marty's bass.
And you wrapped it all in a fine mix and cool vid.

Keeping the blues alive and well!

Hi Dave.

You are definitely one of the forum's elite when it comes to blues.
You and Marty have done a magnificent job with this song.
It is so easy to hear that both of you are in your comfort zone with your performances.
The arrangement and the production sizzle.
As I listened, I could actually see you and Marty on stage performing. It was that realistic to me.
And the vocals... perfect!

I loved everything about this.

Hi Dave, great song!

I listened to it when it just was released, but couldn't write what good song it is. Now I did on YT and I repeat it here; great song, cool solo, good lyrics and vocals.
And of course Marty is very good too. I wonder if that man ever sleep. He's always busy with making songs for himself, you, me, a lot of others.
And always quality (and friendly). You both are a good team!

Out of the three I mentioned I saw Stevie Ray three times and Buddy Guy twice. Never got to see Albert unfortunately, but he was my first major influence back when I first started playing.

Thanks Janice and Bud!

Listened to this tune a couple of times Dave. Loved the chord progressions you used in this tune. Super vocal and lyric. You definitely bent those notes. Fingers must have been singing as well. Guitar work was awesome and Martys basslines were top shelf. Loved the wah as well.

Joyous blues rock.
Great playing & tone - love the linking phrases too.
The klank in the attack of Marty's bass REALLY works sitting him in the mix with definition.
Vocals sound smoked/BBQ'd and a really well placed in the sound stage.
ACE!

Cheers

My least favorite part of any song where I'm doing the vocal is the vocal eek Thanks for the kind words!

I experimented with adding some distortion to Marty's bass track on this song, helps it cut through the mix I think. Thanks, Ray!

Marty likes to add his bass part last so that he can react to what I'm playing on guitar, gives it a live feel during the solos.

Marty is really on fire on this one, great playing, IMO he would certainly deserve a famous dropping also smile
Good smokey vocals, bit buried in the haze, but still enjoyable.
